Team India is preparing to face Australia in the pink-ball Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting at the Adelaide Oval on Friday, December 6. The visitors lead 1-0 in the series, having secured a dominant 295-run victory in Perth, their largest win by runs in a Test in Australia.
Senior batter Virat Kohli entered the match with questions surrounding his form. The 36-year-old had a poor showing in the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home, scoring just 93 runs in six innings at an average of 15.50.
He was dismissed for five in the first innings in Perth but regained his form with an unbeaten 100 off 143 balls in the second innings. Kohli has played in all four of India’s pink-ball Tests, with an impressive record of 277 runs at an average of 46.16, including one century.
In India’s first pink-ball Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in November 2019, Kohli scored 136 off 194 balls in the first innings, including 18 fours. India won the match by an innings and 46 runs. It took over 1,000 days for Kohli to score another century.

Kohli’s second day-night Test was against Australia in Adelaide in December 2020. He scored 74 in the first innings before being run out due to a mix-up with Ajinkya Rahane. India was then bowled out for 36 in the second innings, and Australia won by eight wickets.

The experienced batter scored 27 in the pink-ball Test against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in February 2021, where he was bowled by Jack Leach. His contribution was vital in the two-day Test, which India won by 10 wickets.

Kohli had a disappointing performance in the day-night Test against Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in March 2022. He was dismissed for 23 in the first innings, trapped lbw by Dhananjaya de Silva, and for 13 in the second innings, leg before to Praveen Jayawickrama.
Despite Kohli’s low scores, India won the Test by 238 runs. Shreyas Iyer contributed with scores of 92 & 67, while Rishabh Pant made 39 & 50. Jasprit Bumrah claimed eight wickets with the ball.
