Sri Lanka has produced a very skilled cricketer named Asitha Fernando, whose impact has been considered significant on the global front. Asitha, a right-arm medium fast bowler popularly known in the cricket fraternity, was born on 31/07/1997 in Katuneriya, Sri Lanka.

Asitha Fernando Career:

Fernando has been a part of the domestic cricket team in Sri Lanka since July 2016 and is considered a very prolific bowler in First Class cricket, having bowled 154 wickets in 50 matches at the economy rate of 3.49.  He played his first List A match in March 2017 and in the aggregation of 54 matches, he gained 83 wickets at the rate of 5 in an over.

His T20 debut was on 24-Feb-18, featuring Police SC vs. Chilaw in Colombo. Included in T20 cricket games, he has played 35 matches for his team by default, affected 44 wickets, and maintained an economy of 8.23.  Fernando’s domestic cricket journey started with his FC debut in July of the year 2016.

Debuting at the international level in the ODI format was Asitha Fernando of the Sri Lankan national cricket team. He made his debit in One Day Internationals on 8 July 2017 against the country of Zimbabwe. He has gone to play seven test matches, and his bowler figures include twenty wickets and his striking rate at 3.24 economy rate.

Fernando began his Test career on the 3rd of January, 2021, when he featured for South Africa. Lately in his four ODI appearances, he did not bowl a single over and even has not been able to claim over an impressive economy rate of 6.90. At the Asia Cup competition in September 2022, Fernando played his first T20I match on Bangladesh’s team.
