Born on September 6, 2002, Chamindu Wickramasinghe is a cricketer from Sri Lanka. He played his inaugural T20 match for Sinhalese Sports Club in the 2020–21 SLC T20 Tournament and List A match for Team Colombo against Team Galle during the 2022–23 Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament.

In his Major League Tournament debut, he played for Sinhalese Sports Club against Nugegoda Sports and Welfare Club 25 August 2023. Wickramasinghe became a cricketer because of his grandfather, who had also been a footballer.

He started playing cricket at school, representing St Anthony’s College in Kandy where key milestones were achieved such as achieving 100 runs in his first match for the First XI team and making his maiden hundred within the shortest time during an inter-school limited over competition. Sooner after which he represented Sri Lanka in under-19 cricket tournaments

Chamindu Wickramasinghe has become a prominent topic of discussion in LPL-5

Suppose any player in season 5 of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) can claim the title of the Most Promising Player. In that case, it is Chamindu Wickramasinghe, an all-rounder whose name comes first in this regard.

This aspiring cricket player from Katugastota and a former student of St. Anthony’s College who is currently 21 years old but once played for Sri Lanka’s Under-19 national team at some point achieved 50’s at Dambulla Sixers in two games where his intermediate level of experience handled great pressure yet demonstrated that he could become a true legend one day. 

Thus far, in the LPL, Wickramasinghe has displayed qualities in two matches. He first caught the eye in Dambulla playing against the defending champions, the Kandy Falcons, where he scored an unbeaten 62 off 42 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes) and together with Mark Chapman (91*) posted 154 runs after his team had made 25 runs for the loss of first for wickets within the power play period.

Despite losing the game by six wickets, the highlight of the day was Wickramasinghe’s classy innings in which he managed to provide his team with a decent score to defend A cricketer’s endurance is demonstrated by how he thrives under pressure.

“Considering the position we were in, getting to 180 plus with the partnership was a big achievement,” said Wickramasinghe. “On the other side was Mark Chapman of New Zealand. He has a lot of experience. He spoke to me all the time and I told him that I will support him. I think I did what was required of me for the team.”
