During the current 2023 ODI World Cup, the young Afghanistan cricketer, Ikram Alikhil, displayed his skills and played a pivotal part in helping his team recover from a challenging situation against England at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
In the 13th match of the tournament, Afghanistan was in a tough spot at 174-5 in the 33rd over when Ikram Alikhil stepped up. Showing determination and poise, Ikram played an essential innings, crafting a resilient half-century that contributed to Afghanistan achieving a competitive total.
Born on September 29, 2000, Ikram Alikhil is a talented Afghan cricketer who marked his international debut for the national team in March 2019. His cricketing journey began at a young age when he represented Afghanistan in the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Ikram’s domestic cricket career took flight when he participated in his first Twenty20 match for the Band-e-Amir Dragons in the 2017 Shpageeza Cricket League. One of his notable achievements during this period was scoring an unbeaten century in the final of the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, making a significant contribution to Afghanistan’s victory and their first ACC Under-19 Cup title.
He continued to shine in various domestic competitions, securing a position in Afghanistan’s roster for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Furthermore, he marked his first-class debut with the Speen Ghar Region during the 2018 Ahmad Shah Abdali four-day tournament and also appeared in List A cricket for the same team in the 2018 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One-Day Tournament.
In his international journey, Ikram made his One-Day International (ODI) debut against Ireland in 2019. His exceptional performance led to his selection in Afghanistan’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, where he recorded a half-century in his very first match.
