In the 2017-18 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mayank Markande made his debut in Twenty20 cricket playing for Punjab, where he bowled four overs at an average of 5.25 runs per over. Kumar’s List A debut came in 2017-18 when he played for Haryana against Delhi during the Vijay Hazare Trophy and bowled two overs giving away 37 runs to take away two wickets.

The 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy was his starting point; it was during this tournament that he made 68 runs and got his first five-wicket haul while being the top wicket-taker for Punjab with a total of 29 wickets in six matches.

He was named in the India team for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2018 in December 2018 and then received his T20I cap against Australia in February 2019. But he was able to bowl four overs, where for an economy rate of 7 he did not record any dismissal. He only had a brief exposure to Twenty20 international cricket and was shown the door by the Indian cricket team.
