The United States of America (USA) cricket team achieved the greatest moment in their history by defeating Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 match on Thursday, June 6, in New York. This monumental upset by an associate nation raises curiosity about their coaching staff, particularly the head coach.
In April 2024, Stuart Law was appointed as the head coach of the USA cricket team, succeeding interim coach Kevin Darlington. Law, a former Australian batter, has previously held interim coaching positions with Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. He has also coached Bangladesh’s U19 team and held various coaching roles within Australia.
The Queenslander began his tenure by leading the national team to a series victory over Bangladesh just before the major tournament. The North American team then kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing win over Canada.
USA defeated Pakistan in Super Over in T20 World Cup 2024
Monank Patel and his team tied the match by reaching Pakistan’s total of 159, with Nitish Kumar hitting a boundary on the last ball. Mohammad Amir’s lack of precision in the super over, including three wides, allowed the hosts to set a target of 19 for Pakistan.
Babar Azam’s team managed just one boundary in the super over, scoring only 13 runs. Monank Patel was named Player of the Match for his 50 off 38 deliveries, which set up the home side’s run chase. With two wins, the home team tops the table and is well-positioned to reach the Super 8 stage.
Meanwhile, Pakistan will next face India on Sunday, June 9, in New York, aiming to revive their campaign. India began their tournament with an eight-wicket win over Ireland and have lost only one match in eight T20 World Cup encounters against Pakistan.
