The third and final ODI match between India and West Indies got underway at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. India has an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series, after registering thrilling victories in the first and the second encounter. They chased down 311 runs in the second ODI with two wickets to spare in the final over.

With the series already in pocket, the fans expected India to give opportunities to youngsters, like Arshdeep Singh in the read-rubber. However, the hosts have decided to stick to almost the same playing XI for the match. India made only one change bringing in Prasidh Krishna in place of Avesh Khan. Meanwhile, the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ishan Kishan were excluded.

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh has been part of the Indian squad for a few months now. But, the pacer has played only one T20I for India so far and is yet to make his ODI debut. He was supposed to play the ODI series against England earlier this month, however, an abdominal strain ruled him out. Fans and experts believed that Arshdeep might get an opportunity in the third ODI. However, his non-inclusion in the team has disappointed the Indian fans.

Let’s take a look at how fans reacted to Arshdeep Singh’s exclusion from the Indian team:

India opts to bat first in the third ODI

Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and elected to bat first at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday, July 27. The visitors brought in Prasidh Krishna in place of Avesh Khan, while the hosts made three changes to their team. Jason Holder, Keemo Paul, and Keacy Carty were brought in for Alzarri Joseph, Rovman Powell, and Romario Shepherd.

Speaking at the toss, the Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan said, “The best thing is everything is performing, nice to see that. That’s a big positive for us, happy with that. I feel that intent is important, but at the same time, you need to be smart.”
