Let’s take a look at the records broken by Yashasvi Jaiswal:
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal became the seventeen Indian to score a century on debut for Team India in Test cricket. He joined an elite list of Indian players to achieve the milestone. His Mumbai teammate Shreyas Iyer was the last batter before him to enter the list.
2. The youngster also became the seventh Indian to score an overseas debut hundred. He joined Abbas Ali Baig, Surinder Amarnath, Pravin Amre, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, and Suresh Raina on the list. His unbeaten knock is also the highest by an Indian on Test debut in overseas conditions. He broke Sourav Ganguly’s record of 131 runs against England at Lord’s.
3. Jaiswal became the third opener after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw to score a century on debut. Dhawan slammed 187 runs against Australia in 2013, while Shaw scored 134 runs against West Indies in 2018. He also became the third Indian to score a hundred on Test debut against West Indies. The other two are Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw.
4. The Indian opener is the fourth-youngest to score a century on debut. He has achieved the milestone at 21 years and 197 days. He is behind Prithvi Shaw, Abbas Ali Baig and Gundappa Vishwanath.
5. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s opening stand of 229 runs is now the highest opening partnership for India outside Asia. They broke the record of Chetan Chauhan and Sunil Gavaskar, who had put on 213 runs for the opening stand, 44 years ago.
