CSK lead bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of IPL 2022. Chahar had injured his right quadriceps while bowling his second over during the third T20I between India and West Indies, played in Feb 2022. Since then, he was rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
It was expected that Chahar will recover soon and join the CSK squad halfway through the tournament. However, a new back injury means that he will be out of action for another four months.
Deepak Chahar was re-signed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a whopping INR 14 crores in the IPL 2022 auctions. Chahar is a BCCI contracted player. He is a part of the ‘Grade C Players list’ in the Central Contract 2022 for Indian cricketers.
Since the BCCI has an insurance policy for its contracted players, Deepak Chahar would most certainly get his whole salary for this IPL season, despite not playing a single match. “The BCCI has insured IPL contracts of all the players and it has also been paying the premium. Deepak will recover most if not entire Rs 14 crore from insurance,” a BCCI official said as reported by Cricbuzz.
It should be noted that other players (not contracted with the BCCI) who are ruled out of an entire season without even playing a single match, do not receive any part of their salary.
Deepak Chahar pens an emotional message for CSK Fans
Deepak Chahar took to the microblogging site Twitter to express his disappointment at missing the 15th edition of IPL. His absence will hurt the defending champions massively, who has lost four out of five matches.
He wrote: “Sorry guys. Unfortunately, I will be missing out this season of the IPL due to an injury. Really wanted to play but will come back better and stronger like I have always done. Thanks for always supporting me with your love and wishes. Need your blessings.”

Chahar has been the go-to bowler of CSK for a long time now, and his absence has definitely hurt the franchise. In the first 5 matches of the ongoing season, Chennai have missed a bowler like him who can take early wickets in the powerplay overs.
