Amelia Kerr, the New Zealand cricket team’s all-rounder, reminisced about a touching primary school project back in the days when the White Ferns were looking forward to their first T20 World Cup triumph. In that project, young Amelia was picturing herself in the future holding a World Cup trophy alongside Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates. Sunday, 20th, turned out to be the day when young Amelia’s dream came true.
With 24 years of age, she was one of the key players in the final in which New Zealand thrashed South Africa at Dubai. Her best was achieved due to years of toil. While raising the World Cup, Amelia was with the same people she had looked up to, captain Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates.
The incident served as evidence of Amelia’s tenacity and the motivation she took from her role models. She is now a champion standing with them, leaving her own mark on the history of cricket in New Zealand.
Amelia’s path serves as a reminder that with talent, passion, and perseverance, childhood aspirations may come true. With Amelia Kerr at the center of their achievement, the victory opened a new chapter in the White Ferns’ history.
“I wrote about winning a World Cup with them”- Amelia Kerr
Amelia Kerr of New Zealand produced a game-winning performance on Sunday to lead the White Ferns to their first T20 Women’s World Cup victory. Looking back on her path, Kerr revealed how witnessing her teammates Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates when she was still in school had an impact on her early years. She’d dreamed of winning the World Cup with them after seeing their performances.
“Yeah, I think for me, I was inspired to be a White Fern watching that 2010 World Cup, which Sophie was part of. From that moment, I was at the nets with my dad, pretending I was batting with Sophie and Suzie. Being on the team at such a young age and playing alongside my role models, who have been so good to me—two of New Zealand’s greatest ever cricketers—was incredible,” Amelia said while addressing the press alongside her captain, Devine.
