Virat Kohli delivered another top performance in the IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), helping RCB secure an 11-run win on April 24 and break their home losing streak. In a post-match chat, Kohli was asked about the challenges of opening the innings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
With the pitch no longer as batter-friendly as it once was, Kohli responded with a witty and humorous remark, kicking off his answer with a light-hearted quip.
“The first challenge is winning the toss,” he told JioHotstar as he chuckled.
Kohli’s comment came after RCB lost yet another toss at home and were asked to bat first. However, it seems the team has figured out how to bat effectively at their home ground, setting a challenging total of 205/5.
Reflecting on the ground conditions, Kohli mentioned that RCB had struggled to post competitive scores in previous home games this season, particularly with dew affecting the second half of the innings. He also shared how the batting unit had discussed their performance after losing three home matches due to poor batting.
“Look, we’ve had three pretty average games at home and we discussed a few things we need to get right as a batting unit and we applied ourselves well to get the total on board. The pitch wasn’t as flat as the score makes it look. Dew made the ball come on nicely in the second half and credit to Rajasthan for coming out and playing some good shots,” he said.

For the first time in four home games this season, RCB managed to keep all their wickets intact during the powerplay, setting a solid foundation to post a big total. Virat Kohli shared insights into the team’s approach as a batting unit.
“The template is now pretty simple, for one guy to bat through and the others to attack around him. Devdutt and I know this ground well. Just wanted to let Salt do his thing at the top. Today we just tried to time the ball and keep enough pressure on the opposition to keep giving us boundary balls,” he said.
