Team India has moved up to the second spot in the World Test Championship points table after beating England by 317 runs in the second Test in Chennai. England topped the table before the Test match started and India was on fourth. The visitors have slipped to the fourth position after the loss while New Zealand regain the top spot. India are on 460 points with a percentage of 69.7 while England are on 442 points with a percentage of 67.
The bottom half of the table consists of teams like Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa on fifth sixth and seventh position respectively. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh make up the ninth and the tenth spot in the points table.
Meanwhile, India will have to win at least one more game out of the remaining two matches in the ongoing Test series to become the second team after New Zealand to qualify for the World Test Championship final. The final of the showpiece event will be played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground later this year.

India beat England by 317 runs in the second Test in Chennai as the spinners shared all the 10 English wickets in the second innings. This also brought to an end England’s six-match winning streak in Asian conditions. The hosts thus are back in level-terms in the four-match series at 1-1. Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. More about the day 4 report of the second Test in detail below.
A few records were achieved in this Test match as well. Axar Patel joined an elite list of cricketers to have picked up a fifer on debut and Ashwin scored a century and took a fifer in the same match thrice. Overall, Ashwin’s match figures read 119 runs and eight wickets.
India and England will now lock horns in the third Test which is a Pink-Ball game in Ahmedabad from February 24. Both teams have a week to prepare themselves for the penultimate test.
