The Royal Challengers Bangalore are going through a nightmarish 2023 Women’s Premier League season. They have been struggling to find a single win in the tournament so far. The Smriti Mandhana-led team has lost five consecutive matches in the league and is reeling at the bottom of the table with no points in their kitty.
Royal Challengers Bangalore lost badly to the Delhi Capitals in their opening clash of the season. They managed 163 while chasing 223, losing the game by 60 runs. Since then, the franchise has been on a losing streak. They have lost to all the other four franchises, and twice against the Delhi Capitals. Bangalore will take on the UP Warriorz on Wednesday, March 15 at the DY Patil Stadium. The team is in dire need of a win to stay alive in the competition.
On Tuesday, the Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoff round of the 2023 Women’s Premier League. They are on a juggernaut, winning all of their five matches so far in the league. With them qualifying for the Knockouts, one of the three playoff spots has been booked. The Delhi Capitals are in the second spot with eight points from five matches. If they continue playing like this, they will qualify for the playoff easily.
How can Royal Challengers Bangalore qualify for the 2023 Women’s Premier League?
Royal Challengers Bangalore have lost all of their five matches in the tournament so far. However, they still have a chance mathematically to qualify for the playoff of the tournament. For them to stand a chance, they need to win all of their remaining three matches. They will be playing against the UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Mumbai Indians. This will take them to six points in the table. They will also need luck to favor their side.
UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants are third and fourth in the table respectively. Royal Challengers Bangalore will want the UP Warriorz to lose all their remaining four matches. Meanwhile, the Gujarat Giants should defeat the UP Warriorz, but lost their last two games. This way, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz will have four points each. Royal Challengers Bangalore will become the third team to qualify with six points, given they win all their remaining games.
If the UP Warriorz manages to secure a win in their remaining four matches, they will tie with Bangalore at six points. Also, if Gujarat Giants win more two matches, they will get to six points as well. There is also a chance that all three teams might tie at points each. In both cases, the team with the higher NRR will qualify. Currently, UP Warriorz has the highest NRR of 0.015, and Gujarat Giants have the lowest of -3.207.
