Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning was all praise for their batting performance in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Premier League. They are at the top of the table at the moment with their recent win against the Gujarat Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Meg Lanning expressed that all the top six batters, including herself, are playing on their strengths. The skipper is second on the table of Most Runs scored so far in the tournament. She has scored 148 runs at an average of 37 in four matches. Meanwhile, Alice Capsey is third with 148 runs in three innings. Talking about Delhi Capitals batting, Meg Lanning said in the post-match press conference,

“All that we have really spoken about is playing to our strength. All our top six have their own set of strengths. As long as people are coming out and doing that, we are backing them. We want to play with freedom, especially with the conditions here. The wickets are pretty flat and the outfield is fast. We do that by playing our style, and hopefully, we continue to do that.”

I had to adjust a few things: Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning scored 55 runs from 41 deliveries against the Gujarat Giants in the 2024 Women’s Premier League match. She also got a reprieve on 30 runs. Lanning felt that it was a knock which was uncharacteristic of her bat. The Delhi Capitals managed 163 runs, batting first. They restricted the Gujarat Giants to 138, winning the match by 25 runs. Meg Lanning said,

“It felt like the wicket was flat-flat and I was missing out a fair bit. Gujarat bowled well and kept it pretty tight. I had to adjust a few things. Perhaps could have done that a little earlier, just accelerated a bit quicker. But I wasn’t able to find my groove. I was getting a bit frustrated, I was trying to put a few away. It’s nice to score some runs.”

“I would love to do that a little bit differently so that there is not much pressure on everybody else to up the strike rate. I’m seeing a little bit of improvement in how I’m playing. I’m not completely satisfied but it’s nice to contribute,” she added.
