WPL 2024: Meg Lanning Doesn’t Demand Respect – Jemimah Rodrigues Keen On Learning From The Legendary Cricketer

Delhi Capitals Vice-captain Jemimah Rodrigues is keen to learn from skipper Meg Lanning in the upcoming 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. The Capitals will kick off the tournament taking on the defending champions, Mumbai Indians on Friday, February 23 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Meg Lanning is one of the greats of the game and has guided Australia to 5 ICC titles. She also led the Delhi Capitals to the finals of the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League. Ahead of the upcoming season, Jemimah Rodrigues expressed that there is a lot to learn from the legendary cricketer. She said to Jio Cinema,

“There’s so much to learn from her. She is not someone who would demand respect. She just walks in and everyone automatically has that respect for her. Just walking with her, up close and personal, I never thought I would get that opportunity. Thanks to WPL, I am getting it, being the vice-captain, being involved in a lot of decisions, seeing how she works.”

“I spoke to her regarding captaincy and how she dealt with it. She was made captain at a very young age. And captaincy is so much more than on the field, there are so many things you have to handle and on top of that, your batting. So, it was a good conversation, and I am sure I am going to learn more from her,” Jemimah added.

Hopefully, we will lift the trophy this year: Jemimah Rodrigues

The Delhi Capitals lost to the Mumbai Indians in the finals of the 2023 Women’s Premier League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Jemimah Rodrigues aspires to go past the hurdle and lift the trophy this year at their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The vice-captain said,

“It was really hard because we were going along well. Throughout the tournament, we had some amazing games. The match we wanted to win the most did not go in our favour and that’s sports. That’s why we love playing, you win some and you lose some.”

“But at that time, it teaches you a lot to get back up, gives you another chance, always. Hopefully, this year, we will lift the trophy at our home ground,” Jemimah added.
