WTC 2021-23: New Zealand To Tour India For Two-Match Test Series

India Tour of New Zealand

Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson.

After the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup concludes in November, New Zealand will tour India for a 2-match Test series. This is part of a long Asian tour that the Kiwis will embark upon.

Following the victory in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC), New Zealand will play against India as part of the 2021-23 WTC cycle. This will be their first tour to India in five years.

The previous time the Black Caps toured India in 2016, they lost comprehensively, suffering a 0-3 whitewash to Virat Kohli’s men. New Zealand did return the favor in kind, blanking India 2-0 in 2020 which was part of the 2020-21 WTC cycle.

New Zealand’s T20 World cup preparation

The Kiwis have been flying high ever since producing a clinical performance in the WTC Final. However, with the priority of the format set to change this year, it will be interesting to see how they perform.

The Blackcaps will be eyeing the T20 World Cup trophy after winning the World Test Championship and reaching the 50-Over World Cup final in 2019.

Asia has always been unkind to the Kiwis. Their solution to spinning tracks has usually been to put Williamson at the frontline. But how far can they go with him leading the way single-handedly – we will find out in their pre-tournament tours.

According to a New Zealand website, they have a packed schedule in the subcontinent. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, New Zealand will tour Pakistan for a white-ball series. It will consist of 5 T20I’s followed by 3 ODI’s. Incidentally, it will be Kiwis’ first tour to Pakistan since 2003.

Their caravan will then travel to Bangladesh, where they’re scheduled to compete in a 5-match T20I series. These rubbers are set to be played in the month of September.
