In the WTC Final between New Zealand and India, conditions were heavily favoring the bowlers. As a result, the batsmen from both sides had a hard time adjusting, resulting in a slow tempo all around. It was no different for Kane Williamson, who found scoring very hard, reaching 12 off 119 balls at the time of lunch.
He was able to pick up the pace a bit, later on, eventually scoring 49 off 177 balls, before edging a wide delivery off Ishant Sharma to skipper Kohli in the slips. This incidentally was Williamson’s slowest innings ever (100+ balls), with a strike rate of 27.68.
By the time he was dismissed, however, he had ensured that the Kiwis would take the vital first-innings lead. Earlier, India were bundled out for 217, with Kyle Jamieson picking up his 5th five-wicket haul in the World Test Championship.
Virender Sehwag tweets a cheeky video
In response to the snail-paced innings, Virender Sehwag had a cheeky tweet. The former Indian batsman is known for his aggressive batting style, even in Test cricket. On social media, he is very active and is seen posting memes and engaging in banter.
After Williamson’s knock, Sehwag tweeted a video of a dog sleeping, unbothered about the surroundings. This pretty much summarised the innings, as Williamson kept going unflustered when wickets kept falling at the other end.

Earlier in the day, play was delayed due to rain – a story we’ve seen one too many times already in the WTC Final. When things got underway, India came back fighting, picking up 3 wickets while conceding just 34 runs in the first session of Day 5.
