Xavier Bartlett Ruled Out Of The ENG vs AUS 2024 T20I Series, With Ben Dwarshuis Replacing Him

Australia have included left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis in their squad for the rest of the T20I series against England, replacing right-arm fast bowler Xavier Bartlett, who is sidelined due to a side strain that prevented him from completing his spell in the first T20I at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.

Bartlett went for two T20I matches during the previous series against Scotland and had two bowling figures of 4-0-23-2 and 3-0-20-1 as Australia took the series 3-0. In Southampton, the South Australian dismissed Jordan Cox who made 17 runs in just 12 balls before leaving as the remaining two deliveries were bowled by Cameron Green.

Dwarshuis, on the other hand, made his international debut in April 2022 at Lahore and played without taking a wicket with bowling figures of 3-0-42-0. His most recent outing saw him post stats of 4-0-30-2. This year’s Northern Superchargers in The Hundred included this New South Wales seamer who had four wickets in two matches for an average of 14 each.

Spencer Johnson, Riley Meredith, and Nathan Ellis were already ruled out of the T20I series before Xavier Bartlett

Before the T20I series even started, Australia had already lost three pacers—Spencer Johnson, Riley Meredith, and Nathan Ellis. For the upcoming five-match ODI series, Australia will see the return of Mitchell Starc, along with Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, and Alex Carey.

West Indies managed to take a 1-0 lead in T20Is by winning the first match by 28 runs. Visitors set 180 runs target for England in first game where Travis Head scored highest run of 59 runs by hitting 23 balls. Best bowling performance for Australians was shown by Sean Abbott who took 3 wickets at a cost of just 28 runs from his 3.2 overs.

Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood shared two wickets while Bartlett, Green and Marcus Stoinis took one each. In the ongoing second T20I match at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Head is captaining Australia as Mitchell Marsh is not well.
