“You Have Control Of The Situation” – Virat Kohli Assists The Umpire On Day 1 Of The 5th BGT Test

India’s batting star, Virat Kohli, was spotted helping on-field umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat locate the ball on Day 1 (Friday, January 3) of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, showing his sportsmanship and quick thinking in the moment.

Kohli faced the challenge early, being at the crease as early as the eighth over. He had a close call when Steve Smith in the slips appeared to have caught him, but replays revealed the ball had touched the ground, allowing Kohli to remain at the crease.

During the first session, umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat struggled to find the ball to hand over to Scott Boland. Kohli, observing this from the bowler’s end, and quickly informed Saikat with a helpful gesture. He stated:

“Where’s the ball, you have got the ball in your pocket.”

India Suffer Three Wickets in the First Session of Day 1 in BGT 2024-25 5th Test

Team India won the toss and chose to bat in the fifth BGT Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Jasprit Bumrah is captaining the side in place of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who ‘opted out’ of this match. Akash Deep, sidelined due to injury, was replaced by Prasidh Krishna, while Shubman Gill came in for Sharma.

Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (10 off 26) and KL Rahul (4 off 14) were dismissed early. Shubman Gill came in at No. 3 and played solidly but was dismissed just before Lunch for 20 runs off 64 balls.

Lunch has been called on Day 1 of the Test, with India at 57/3 after 25 overs. Virat Kohli remains unbeaten at the crease, looking solid and determined to build a partnership as the visitors aim to recover from the early setbacks.
