“You Need To Maintain Discipline In Your Daily Habits” – Yashasvi Jaiswal Shares Virat Kohli’s Advice For The BGT 2024-25

Team India and Rajasthan Royals (RR) opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal recently reflected on the valuable advice he received from batting legend Virat Kohli when he was beginning his journey in senior cricket. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) shared a special feature video of Jaiswal in Perth on Thursday, November 21.

Jaiswal, who has featured in 14 Test matches, has consistently opened the batting alongside Rohit Sharma. He has been in fine form, scoring multiple centuries and fifties, including two double centuries in the series against England earlier this year in February.

As the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy approaches, with the opening Test in Perth, Jaiswal opened up about the advice Virat Kohli gave him regarding self-management. In a candid conversation with bcci.tv, the 22-year-old shared:

“When I started playing senior cricket, I spoke to Virat paaji about how he manages himself. He has said that if you want to play all that cricket then you have to be disciplined in your daily routines and process so I have seen him do things day by day.”

Jaiswal further added:

“It motivates me a lot to put in all the work and do something and make a difference in my habits, which is important. It makes me better day by day. I have always believed in consistency in my work.”

“There is always a purpose before practice” – Yashasvi Jaiswal on his practice plans

In the same video, Yashasvi Jaiswal mentioned that he always practices with a clear plan, being aware of the specific types of wickets he will be playing on. He stated:

“Ekdam ready hoke jaana chaiye net me, koi na koi plan leke jaata hoon aur aise hi type ke wickets pe khelne waale hai. Humesha koi na koi purpose hota hai practice ke phele and recovery pe focus karta hoon ki accha soun, aur khaun practice sessions ke pehle.”

“(I am going into the nets fully ready, with a plan that we will be playing on these types of wickets I always enter the practice with a purpose and focus on recovering before the practice sessions ensuring that I sleep well and eat well).”

The 22-year-old will be making his debut Test appearance in Australia, where he will open the innings for Team India. The first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will take place from November 22-26 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
