Destructive Indian middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement from International cricket today. The man behind the world tournaments called for a press conference today at Mumbai (1 PM IST) and briefed the media regarding the same. The 37year old represented India in more than 400 games all formats combined scoring up to 11,000 runs.
Speaking on his retirement, Yuvi said that he has decided that it is the time to move on after years” of service to the Indian cricket. His stage set up in the conference included few of his memorable Man of the Match and tournament trophies alongside the prestigious T20 2007 jersey which made the world turn towards the Indian side after he took Stuart Broad on a carnage scoring six sixes off an over.
Few videos regarding his training in his early days and his love towards the gentleman”s game were also played at the press meet. He said ” After 25 years in and around the 22 yards and almost 17 years of international cricket on and off, I have decided to move on. This game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust off, to get up again and move forward”.
It is to be noted that Yuvraj played his heart out in the 2011 World Tournament despite being diagnosed with cancer and took a break from cricket for more than two years. He made sure to announce his comeback in style as he kept on hitting opponents with the way he used to do before. He was adjudged the man of the series in 2011 for his all-round efforts and experts still say that it played an integral part in  India”s success.
“Cricket has given me everything. I gave my blood and sweat to the game. Thanks to my true fans who have always supported me on and off the field. Trust me, I have never stopped believing in myself.This has been a lovely journey, see you on the other side.To be a part of history that was made 28 years later, what can I say about that”, he added.
Yuvi thanked Sourav Ganguly for his intention to include him as a part of the the Indian side in 2000 after his scintillating performances in the under 19 world cup. He also spoke about the different Captian and players he played with and thanked for their support in and out of the dressing room.
Speaking on his few of the memorable moments of his career, “Some of the most memorable moments of my career are the 2002 Natwest Trophy final, my Test ton against Pakistan in 2004 in Lahore, winning the World T20 in 2007 and hitting six sixes. Winning 2011 WC was the best moment of my career.”
