On April 2, nine years back India scripted history when they defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to lift the ICC World Cup after 28 long years. This day will forever be etched the memory of the Indian cricket lovers.

The then skipper MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir shared a match-winning stand to defy the odds to chase down the mammoth total. Dhoni played the masterstroke by promoting him ahead of the man of the series Yuvraj Singh to tackle Muttiah Muralitharan, who was making the ball talk.

Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91 runs and finished off the proceeding with a staggering six to take billions of Indians into jubilation. However, Gautam Gambhir also played a steady knock to steer the run chase after India lost Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag early. The southpaw scored 97 runs and missed out on a well-deserved century in the final by a whisker.

On the occasion of the ninth anniversary, current India head coach Ravi Shastri took to Twitter to congratulate the whole team tagging Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Notably, Shastri hit the limelight with his outstanding lines from the commentary box during the final six from MS Dhoni.

“Many Congratulations Guys! Something you will cherish all your life. Just like we from the 1983 group #WorldCup2011 – @sachin_rt @imVkohli”, Shastri tweeted.

Soon after the tweet came out, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh jumped to troll Ravi Shastri while thanking him. Yuvraj took a dig at Shastri for not tagging him and MS Dhoni in the tweet despite the fact that the two also played pivotal roles in India’s title victory.

“Thanks senior ! U can tag me and mahi also we were also part of it,” Yuvraj tweeted.
