Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has picked one team he wants to play for in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Making his debut in Mumbai Indians in 2013 after warming the benches for two seasons, Chahal shifted his base to the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2014 IPL auction.
Since then, he has been one of the vital cogs in their line-up. Since joining Bangalore, Chahal has featured in 106 games scalping 125 wickets at an economy rate of 7.70. He played an important role when Royal Challengers Bangalore reached the finals in the 2016 edition of IPL.
When asked about a franchise he sees himself playing for if not RCB in a Q&A with Crictracker, Chahal picked the name of Chennai Super Kings. Considering the sort of environment CSK have for spinners, it isn’t much of a surprise that the Yuzvendra Chahal picked the MS Dhoni-led side.
Yuzvendra Chahal faces stiff competition for a spot in T20 World Cup
The IPL 2021 that was cut short due to the Covid-19 outbreak within the league, had seen Chahal bag just 4 wickets in 7 matches. The veteran spinner hasn’t looked at his best this year and the situation has also put his participation in the forthcoming T20 World Cup under question.
The emergence of some of the other spinners like Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, etc. has increased the competition for Yuzvendra Chahal. The upcoming limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka in July will be a litmus test for the 30-year-old spinner to impress the selectors and retain his berth for the T20 World Cup.
BCCI is yet to decide on the future of the global T20 event. They have asked for one month’s time from ICC to decide on hosting the tournament. If the Sourav Ganguly-led body fails to host it in India due to the COVID19 crisis, UAE are the front-runner to host stage the mega event.
