Yuzvendra Chahal Joins Punjab Kings for IPL 2025
The IPL 2025 mega-auction saw intense bidding for star players, and Chahal emerged as one of the most expensive buys. PBKS acquired the seasoned spinner for a staggering INR 18 crore after Rajasthan Royals opted not to retain him.
Chahal’s inclusion in the Punjab Kings squad made him one of the highest-paid bowlers in IPL history, as the team made a strategic move to bolster their spin attack. The decision by Rajasthan Royals to release Chahal, however, shocked fans and analysts alike.
Chahal’s Playful Side During PBKS Training
During a PBKS practice session, Chahal entertained his teammates by imitating Mohammad Rizwan’s iconic phrase: “Oh yes, it’s a two.” He further teased his teammate Shashank Singh, walking up to the crease and jokingly asking, “Darr gye kya (Are you afraid of me)?”

Chahal’s Performance in IPL 2024
Before joining Punjab Kings, Chahal had a strong season with Rajasthan Royals, picking up 18 wickets in 15 matches. Despite his impressive stats, RR chose not to retain him.
Key highlights from IPL 2024 include Chahal finishing as Rajasthan Royals’ leading wicket-taker, displaying consistency in the middle overs, and playing a crucial role in multiple victories. After his release from RR, multiple franchises showed interest in him, but ultimately, Punjab Kings secured Chahal with the highest bid, marking his journey from Rajasthan Royals to Punjab Kings.
Chahal’s International Career: A Rough Patch
Despite his IPL success, Chahal has struggled to find a spot in the Indian national team since August 2023. Even though he was part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, he did not get a single game in the tournament.
Chahal is working hard to make a comeback, evident from his domestic performances. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he picked up 10 wickets at a fantastic strike rate of 15.00.
Punjab Kings’ Expectations from Chahal
PBKS will rely on Chahal to lead their spin attack. His experience and wicket-taking ability make him a crucial asset. Chahal’s legacy in the IPL is marked by his record as the highest wicket-taker in the league’s history, with 205 wickets in 160 matches. Throughout the seasons, he has delivered multiple match-winning spells and is regarded as one of the most successful spinners in IPL history.
