Indian spin maestro Yuzvendra Chahal put in a strong effort on Day 2 of Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) pre-season camp, gearing up for the highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The 34-year-old, who was acquired by the Punjab-based franchise for an impressive ₹18 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, is set to make his debut for the team.

PBKS have begun their preparations well in advance, with several players, including Chahal, attending the pre-season camp. On Friday, January 24, the franchise shared a series of Instagram stories, offering fans a sneak peek into their training sessions.

Yuzvendra Chahal, released by RR before the IPL 2025 auction, became the league’s costliest spinner with a record PBKS deal. At the pre-season camp, he was joined by teammates Harpreet Brar, Nehal Wadhera, and others. PBKS also welcomes new leaders Shreyas Iyer as captain and Ricky Ponting as head coach.

Yuzvendra Chahal hasn’t played for India since August 2023, despite being part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad but not featuring in any matches. Former opener Aakash Chopra expressed surprise over Chahal’s exclusion, despite his strong performances, in a recent YouTube video.

“An interesting case is Yuzi Chahal’s. He last played in January 2023. So it’s been two years for him. It’s interesting because Bhuvi would have been expensive and wouldn’t have got wickets in the last 10 matches before he was dropped, but Yuzi Chahal’s numbers are also very good. He has picked up a lot of wickets and was consistently doing well.“

“However, he has been totally finished. His file has been closed. I have got no idea why they did that. Having said that, because it’s been two years since it’s been closed, there is no place for Yuzi also here because as soon as you suddenly pick him out of the blue, it will be seen as a regressive step.”
