Shubman Gill marked his first series victory as captain by celebrating with his family on Sunday, July 14, at Harare Sports Club. Leading India, he guided them to a comfortable 42-run win over Zimbabwe in the fifth T20I, securing a 4-1 series triumph.

Zimbabwe began powerfully by securing the initial match by a 13-run margin previous week. However, India rebounded forcefully with a dominant 100-run win in the second T20I. They sustained their force, securing victories in the next three matches continuously to secure the series.

Shubman Gill appeared as the highest run-scorer of the series, contributing 170 runs in five matches with an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 125.93, which featuring two half-centuries.

It was an unforgettable occasion for Shubman Gill, marking his inaugural series victory as captain of India. His family members joined him at the ground to commemorate the event. He embraced his father, Lakhwinder Singh, mother, Keart Gill, and sister, Shahneel Gill, before posing for photos with them alongside the trophy.

“The way we came back after the first match was special!”-Shubman Gill following India’s victory in the 5th T20I vs Zimbabwe

During the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill expressed satisfaction with his team’s series performance, highlighting their impressive comeback after losing the first match. Regarding the victory, he remarked:

“It was an excellent series! The way we came back after the first match was special! When we first came in, not everyone got a decent hit in the nets, but we adapted well.”

Regarding the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Gill added:

“I’ve been to Sri Lanka once before, so, the tour will be another one to look forward to from my side.”

Later this month, India will travel to Sri Lanka for a series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs. The tour kicks off on July 27 with the first T20I scheduled at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
