The Indian women’s team continued their winning form by beating Thailand by 66 runs in their 2nd group match played at Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur today. After yesterday’s dominating performance, Harmanpreet Kaur led side continued their winning momentum and trashed the minnows by a big margin.

Thailand captain S Tippoch won the toss and elected to field first. Mithali Raj was rested for this match after yesterday’s match-winning performance. The Indian openers Mona Meshram and Smriti Mandhana started the innings off to a slow start scoring 27 runs in the first 6 overs. After the power play overs, both batsmen continued their steady batting.

Both openers added 53 runs for the first wicket. Smriti Mandhana was dismissed by Boochatham for 29 runs. Mona Meshram played well scoring 32 runs. Anuja Patil scored 22 while Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored a quick fire 27 off 17 balls to post 132 for 4 in 20 overs. For Thailand, Liengprasert picked 2 wickets.

Chasing 133, the Thailand batters lost wickets at regular intervals and never able to chase down India’s target. N Boochatham was the top scorer for Thailand with 21. N Chaiwai scored 14. India restricted Thailand to 66 for 8 in 20 overs. For India, Harmanpreet Kaur picked 3 wickets for 11 runs while Deepti Sharma took 2 wickets.

It was a dominating performance by the Indian women’s team who outplayed Thailand in all departments and showed their authority in the match. India won the match by 66 runs to go at the top of the points table.
