IPL 2024: “If DK Is Not In Your XI I Don’t Think There Is Any Point In Picking Him” – Yuvraj Singh

The T20 World Cup is coming up soon, and the Indian team has some tough decisions to make. They need to pick players based on their performances, especially those who shine in the IPL. Dinesh Karthik, a seasoned player, has been outstanding in the IPL, scoring a lot of runs at a very high speed for RCB. People are now debating whether Karthik should be included in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.

He hasn’t played for India since 2022, when he didn’t make much of an impact despite being selected based on his IPL performance. With Rishabh Pant as the main wicketkeeper-batter, the selectors are looking for a backup. Some think KL Rahul or Sanju Samson might be better choices than Karthik. However, Yuvraj Singh, a former Indian cricketer, believes there’s no harm in picking Karthik.

He suggests that if Karthik gets selected, he should also get a chance to play in the matches, not just sit on the bench.

“DK (Karthik) has been batting well, but the thing with DK is the last time (2022) they picked him and the T20 WC was on he didn’t get to play,” Yuvraj said as quoted by ICC. “If DK is not in your XI I don’t think there is any point in picking him. There is Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and both guys are in great form and obviously they are younger.”

He continued, “I would like to see DK in the mix, but if he is not going to play then you would rather have someone who is younger and can make the difference.” Previously, Dinesh Karthik expressed his readiness to participate in the T20 World Cup, affirming his full preparedness for the prestigious tournament.

Nevertheless, he emphasized his willingness to abide by the choices made by captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid, and Ajit Agarkar.

“At this stage of my life, it would be the greatest feeling for me to represent India. I’m very, very keen to do so. There’s nothing bigger in my life other than representing India in this T20 World Cup,” Karthik, who also does commentary at present, said.
