IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings go top of points table with a thrilling 4 run win

Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 runs in a thrilling 20th match of IPL 2018 played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. SRH captain Williamson won the toss and elected to field first. Contributions from Rayadu, Raina and Dhoni, CSK posted 182 for 3 in 20 overs. While chasing, captain Williamson, Pathan, and Rashid Khan could not get SRH go beyond the line.

SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bowl first earlier today. The last match centurion Shane Watson was dismissed for 9 runs by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Shakib AL Hasan, Billy Stanlake and Bhuvneshwar Kumar restricted the run flow. At the end of 6 overs, CSK just scored 27 runs.

Faf du Plessis who was playing in his first match of the tournament could only contribute only 11 runs. Rayadu took control of the innings with aggressive hitting. He reached his half-century off 27 balls. His other partner Suresh Raina played slowly first. Both Rayadu and Raina added 112 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Rayadu was dismissed for 79 off 37 balls. In the last few overs, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a cameo scoring 25 just in 12 balls. Suresh Raina reached his half-century off 39 balls. Chennai Super Kings posted 182 for 3 in 20 overs.

Chasing 183, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the wicket of Ricky Bhui who was dismissed by Chahar in the 1st over itself. Manish Pandey and Deepak Hooda did contribute much. Kane Williamson and Shakib AL Hasan steadied the innings. At the end of six overs, SRH scored 40 for 3.

Kane Williamson and AL Hasan put up 49 runs partnership for the 4th wicket. AL Hasan was dismissed by Karn Sharma for 24 runs. Captain Kane reached his half-century off 35 balls and continued to put pressure on Chennai Super Kings bowlers. Both Williamson and Yusuf Pathan added 79 runs for the 5th wicket. SRH captain Williamson was dismissed by Bravo for a brilliant 84 runs.

With 25 runs off 8 balls required, Rashid Khan came at the crease and hit a six. With 16 runs needed off 3 balls, Khan hit a six and four off Bravo bowling. Bravo bowled a brilliant last ball to give CSK a 4 run win.

CSK 182 for 3 in 20 overs ( Rayadu 79, Raina 54*, Dhoni 25*, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/22) beat

SRH 178 for 6 in 20 overs ( Kane Williamson 84, Yusuf Pathan 45, Rashid Khan 17*, Deepak Chahar 3/15) by 4.

SRH captain Kane Williamson said: Losing early wickets hurt our run chase. I tried to steady the innings and help the team to win the match. Yusuf Pathan also contributed 45 runs off 27 balls. Our bowling was not up to the mark and gave away too many runs in the death overs to such a strong team like Chennai.

CSK captain MS Dhoni said: The wickets in this edition are good batting pitches. Rayadu was brilliant with the bat. Suresh Raina also contributed important runs. Chahar bowled brilliant in the first six overs and took important wickets, also lends batting lower down the order. With important matches coming up, we are doing well as a unit.

Man of the match Rayadu said: It was a good batting pitch. In the first 8 overs, our batting struggled. I took the charge of scoring big runs and gave the team a solid foundation for a big total. With good depth in the squad, our batting is clicking on the right team. In every match, some player is scoring and putting big totals.

With this Chennai Super Kings have regained the top position at points table.
