The BCCI has announced a strong 17 man ODI squad to tour South Africa after the 3 match test series. India and South Africa will take on each other in 6 ODI’s matches.
In the opening slot, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Rahane have been included. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have done well for India as openers in ODI cricket. While Rahane also has done well recently and is a backup opener if somebody gets injured.
The team will be led by Virat Kohli who will bat at number 3. Young Shreyas Iyer who did well in the ODI series against Sri Lanka has been included. Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya are the middle order batsmen in this ODI team.
Indian pace department looks strong with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Shardul Thakur. Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Axar Patel are the three spinners have been included. Kedar Jadhav will be making a comeback into the ODI squad after missing the Sri Lanka ODI series due to injury.
There is no place for Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the ODI squad. Also, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina have not been included.
The Indian ODI team looks a solid team with good batsmen, all-rounders, pace bowling department and spinners which can take wickets in the middle overs.
It promises to be an exciting series between two top teams in the world. India is currently number 2nd and wants to prove their supremacy in their conditions. Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, this will be the first real test outside the subcontinent. The ODI Series will start from 1st February and finishes on 16th February
