Rehan Ahmed, the 13-year-old d kid who has caught everybody’s attention bowling at the nets of Lords Crickets Ground is considered to be the future of England’s spin bowling. At this tender age, he has already bowled a few times to the visiting teams.
The young cricketer from Nottinghamshire drew attention when he bowled Ben Stokes out last year and since then has been a talking point. MCC kept him away from all the media attention after his mark at the nets of Lords.
He was called this year in succession by MCC to bowl at the nets as team England prepares for the third and final test. He not only bowled beautifully but also troubled a few batsmen.
In a chat with ESPNcricinfo, MCC head coach Steve Kirby said, “He is an exceptional, precocious talent, and one we should nurture and not over-coach. Nottinghamshire is doing a great job with him at present. We all just want to allow him to play and flourish. We don”t want to do anything to crush the wonderful enthusiasm he has at the moment.”
Rehan was included in the Nottinghamshire u-10 side when his father Naeem brought him at the club for an open trial. He also went on to represent his club in few of the u-17 matches.
Naeem recalls when the legendary spinner Mushtaq Ahmed was impressed by the kid when he saw him bowling at the nets while passing by. Ahmed’s advice to the little spinner was, “Just bowl and don”t take too much notice of what any coaches say.”
Rehan is also very useful with the bat and recently he scored an unbeaten 150 in a county game. He has also given an opportunity a face a ball from West Indian captain Jason Holder which he drove back over his head.
