Former India team captain Rohit Sharma played a brisk innings of 48 off 39 balls in the second ODI against Afghanistan at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, June 17. The veteran opener struck six fours and two sixes during his entertaining knock.
After India were put in to bat, they suffered an early setback with Yashasvi Jaiswal departing for just four off nine deliveries. Rohit then stitched together a quick 87-run partnership for the second wicket with captain Shubman Gill, who went on to score 154 off 110 balls.
Rohit looked set for a half-century but fell two runs short after being bowled by Rashid Khan. During the innings, Rohit became the fifth Indian batter to cross 14,000 runs in List A cricket. He now has 14,038 runs from 357 List A matches at an average of 46.79, including 37 centuries and 74 fifties.
Of those, 11,641 runs came in 284 ODIs, including 33 centuries and 61 fifties. Rohit Sharma is also the only batter with three ODI double centuries. Following Rohit Sharma’s milestone of reaching 14,000 List A runs, here’s a look at the four other Indian greats who achieved the feat before him.
#1 Sachin Tendulkar (21,999 runs)
Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of Indian batters with the most runs in List A cricket. Across 551 matches, he scored 21,999 runs at an average of 45.54, including 60 centuries and 114 fifties. Out of these, 14,797 runs have come in 311 ODIs at an average of 58.71 and a strike rate of 93.82. In ODI cricket, Kohli has registered 54 hundreds and 77 fifties.
