India took on Bangladesh in the opening match of the tournament played at Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on 19th February 2011. Thanks to Virender Sehwag 175 off 140 balls and Virat Kohli unbeaten century, India posted a massive total of 370 for 4 in 50 overs. Sehwag and Kohli added 203 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Defending the target of 371 runs, it was a good bowling effort by the Indian team as they restricted Bangladesh to 283 for 9 in 50 overs. Munaf Patel was the pick of bowlers with 4 wickets, Zaheer Khan 2, Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan 1 wicket each. India won the match by a massive 87 runs.
