Reliving India”s 1983 World Cup Journey

The 1983 World Cup played in England and Wales was played between 9th to 25th June. 8 teams contested and the teams were divided into groups of two.  Each team played the other team twice. Top 2 from each group qualified for the semi-finals.

Under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, the Indian team were grouped with West Indies, Zimbabwe and Australia. Nobody expected them to beat teams like West Indies and Australia.

The matches were played in traditional white clothing and red balls. Each inning consisted of 60 overs.
