Mohammed Shami replaced Jasprit Bumrah in India’s T20 World Cup squad and has immediately made his presence felt. He bowled an excellent 20th over in the warm-up game against Australia and also had a decent return in their first Super 12 game against arch-rivals Pakistan.

While he was considered in the T20I side since the last T20 World Cup in the UAE, Shami has enjoyed decent success in the shortest format of the game and is more than useful with the new ball. He has produced enticing spells in the India colours and on that note, we take a look at three of his best spells in T20Is.

#1 3/15 vs Scotland (2021)

The 2021 T20 World Cup was very poor for the Indian team. Due to defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand, India were knocked out of the tournament in the very first round. But it was in this T20 World Cup tournament that Mohammed Shami produced his best performance in his international T20 career.

In the match against Scotland, Shami gave only 15 runs in 3 overs, dismissing 3 batsmen. Due to this brilliant bowling by Shami, the entire team of Scotland was all out for only 85 runs. The Men in Blue chased down the target in just 6.3 overs and improved their run rate. Shami showed in this match that he has great skill to bowl yorkers.

#2 3/38 vs England (2014)

In the early years of his career, Mohammed Shami was considered as a three formats player. In the T20 match against England in 2014, Shami justified the Indian team’s faith by bowling brilliantly. Shami gave 38 runs in four overs and dismissed three leading batsmen of England.

At one point when England looked like they would reach 200, Shami’s brilliant bowling only allowed them to reach 180 runs. But in this exciting match which went to the last ball, England defeated India by three runs. Although the Indian team lost, Mohammed Shami definitely won the hearts of all Indian cricketers with this brilliant bowling.

3) 3/32 vs Afghanistan (2021)

After heavy defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand in the 2021 T20 World Cup, India needed a big win against Afghanistan to keep their chances of reaching the semi-finals alive and Mohammed Shami bowled brilliantly in this important match.

Batting first, the Indian team had built a huge mountain of 210 runs. In reply, Shami kept Afghanistan’s batsmen in check, conceding only 32 runs in 4 overs. Due to this brilliant bowling by Shami, the Indian team maintained their challenge in the tournament by winning by 66 runs.
