3 Game-Changers KKR Could Target For IPL 2026
Abhishek Nayar

Abhishek Nayar, former India assistant coach, will step into a major role in IPL 2026 as the new head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The franchise confirmed on October 30 that Nayar will replace Chandrakant Pandit, who completed his term after the 2025 season.

Although this is Nayar’s first time as head coach, he has been connected with KKR since 2018, contributing through the support staff and academy system. With KKR finishing eighth in IPL 2025 after a disappointing season, Nayar’s biggest task will be to rebuild the team and restore its competitive edge. As the franchise enters a fresh phase under his leadership, here are three players KKR could target on his recommendation.

Tanush Kotian – A Reliable Mumbai All-Rounder

Mumbai cricketer Tanush Kotian is one of the most promising all-round options available. A consistent performer in red-ball cricket, the 27-year-old has played 42 first-class matches, scoring 2,120 runs at an average of 42.40 and taking 125 wickets with three five-wicket hauls.

In T20s, he has featured in 33 games, picking up 33 wickets at an impressive average of 20.03 and an economy rate of 6.39. He was also part of Mumbai’s title-winning Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-25, claiming nine wickets. With his balanced skill set and strong Mumbai roots, Kotian could be a valuable signing, especially with Nayar knowing his game closely.

Prithvi Shaw – A Comeback Story In Progress

Another possible target is opener Prithvi Shaw, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Once considered a future star, Shaw has seen career setbacks in recent years, both due to form and controversy.

However, he has shown signs of revival in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, smashing a fifty and a blazing 222 off 156 balls for Maharashtra. In a recent podcast, Nayar openly expressed interest in mentoring Shaw, calling him a player with great potential who needs the right guidance. With Nayar now in charge and Shaw showing positive intent, KKR could offer him a much-needed second chance.

Shivam Mavi – A Familiar Face With Renewed Rhythm

The third name on the radar is pacer Shivam Mavi, who has already represented KKR from 2018 to 2022. Despite going unsold in IPL 2025 and missing league action for three seasons, he made a strong impression in the UP T20 League 2025.

Finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets in 10 matches. His past experience with the franchise and current form could make him an ideal return pick. Under Nayar’s coaching, Mavi might be able to rebuild his IPL career and strengthen KKR’s fast-bowling unit.
