3 Key Reasons India Should Include Arshdeep Singh In Their Champions Trophy 2025 Squad

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh showcased his talent with strong performances in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The left-arm bowler has also earned a spot in the T20I squad for the upcoming five-match home series against England, starting January 22, 2025.

With the Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon, following the white-ball series against England, Arshdeep will be focusing on making his mark in the prestigious ICC event. The Indian team has yet to announce its squad for the tournament.

India is placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, with all matches scheduled to be played in Dubai. While Arshdeep has become a regular in the T20I side, he still needs to secure his place in the ODI squad.

The 25-year-old was instrumental in India’s victory at the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup, taking 17 wickets in eight matches with an impressive average of 12.64. This performance highlights his ability to perform under pressure in major ICC tournaments.

Here Are The 3 Key Reasons India Should Include Arshdeep Singh In Their Champions Trophy 2025 Squad:

The 25-year-old was vital in India’s ICC 2024 T20 World Cup win, taking 17 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 12.64, proving his ability under pressure. Here are 3 reasons India should include Arshdeep Singh in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad:

#1 Arshdeep Singh showcased his bowling skills in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy

Arshdeep Singh proved his value with the ball in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, representing Punjab. He leads the tournament’s wicket tally with 20 wickets from seven matches, averaging 18.25 and maintaining an economy rate of 5.62. The pacer also recorded two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

Though Arshdeep has played just eight ODIs for India, taking 12 wickets, his strong performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy could enhance his chances of returning to the ODI side and being selected for the Champions Trophy squad. India should consider his recent form in the 50-over format.

#2 Arshdeep adds variety to the bowling attack

India’s top pacers—Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammad Shami—are all right-arm bowlers, with all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy also bowling right-arm pace.

In this context, adding Arshdeep, a left-arm pacer, to the squad would introduce much-needed variety to the pace attack. His ability to swing the ball in to right-handers, move it away from left-handers, and bowl fierce bouncers could make him a potent weapon in India’s pace lineup for the Champions Trophy.

#3 The left-arm pacer could enhance the pace attack if Bumrah is sidelined

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from India’s T20I squad for the upcoming home series against England, with fitness concerns lingering throughout the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 and beyond.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Bumrah’s fitness and his potential participation in the Champions Trophy, including Arshdeep Singh in the squad could strengthen India’s pace attack. It would also provide him with an opportunity to cement his place in the ODI format.
