3 Reasons Why Sam Curran Could Be RR’s Game-Changer Ahead Of IPL 2026

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly in discussions with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a possible trade involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in exchange for Sanju Samson before the IPL 2026 auction. As per ESPN Cricinfo, both franchises have been in active talks over this three-player deal. CSK had signed Sam Curran for ₹2.40 crore for the 2025 season.

The English all-rounder had previously represented the franchise in 2020 and 2021 before rejoining them in 2025. He played five matches last season, scoring 114 runs at a strike rate of 135.71. Overall, Curran has featured in 64 IPL matches, scoring 997 runs at a strike rate of 136.38 and taking 59 wickets with an economy rate of 9.73. If the trade goes through, RR could benefit significantly from Curran’s all-round abilities. Here are three reasons why bringing Sam Curran into the side would be the right move for Rajasthan Royals.

Sam Curran Brings Flexibility To The Batting Order

Rajasthan Royals depended heavily on their top-order batters last season. Players like Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Shimron Hetmyer often struggled to finish games under pressure. Sam Curran’s inclusion could bring much-needed stability and power to the middle order.

Known for his ability to score quick runs towards the end of the innings, Curran can also act as a floater, adapting to any batting position as required. If Ravindra Jadeja joins him in the trade, RR could use Jadeja as a finisher while Curran strengthens the lower middle order. This combination would reduce the burden on the rest of the batters and allow them to play with more freedom.

Provides An Extra Bowling Option

In the previous season, RR’s bowling attack faced inconsistency. Tushar Deshpande picked nine wickets in ten matches but conceded runs at a high economy rate. Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma also struggled to maintain control, often proving expensive in crucial moments.

Sam Curran’s arrival would provide Rajasthan with an additional bowling option they sorely missed. As a left-arm pacer, he brings variety to the attack and can operate in different phases of the innings. Moreover, with Archer’s recurring injury issues, Curran could serve as a dependable backup and share the workload effectively.

Fills multiple roles In The team

Being a genuine all-rounder, Sam Curran can fill several important gaps for RR. If Sanju Samson leaves as part of the trade, Curran could take on a higher batting role, such as number three, or even act as a pinch-hitter in the middle overs. His bowling versatility allows him to bowl with the new ball, in the middle overs, or even at the death.

Along with his excellent fielding skills, Curran would add balance and depth to the team. With his prior IPL experience and international exposure across all formats, Curran’s inclusion would bring reliability, energy, and flexibility to the Rajasthan Royals setup ahead of IPL 2026.
