Youngster Yash Dayal made his IPL debut, against Rajasthan Royals on 14th April 2022. He was handed the cap by Gujarat Titans’ Head Coach- Ashish Nehra. The tall pacer clocks 140 kmph consistently and can trouble the batters in the tournament.

 During the recent One-Day International series against West Indies earlier this year, Yash Dayal was a part of Team India bio-bubble as a backup option. Yash revealed that sharing time with international players was a surreal moment for him.

In a News18 exclusive interview, he revealed: “I was sitting in the team bus. Then one by one all those players I’ve watched on TV began pouring in. Rohit bhaiya, Virat bhaiya, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav walked in. Couldn’t believe I’m sitting with them.”

Yash has also trained under Australian legend Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation. The 24-year old believes that the time spent with McGrath helped him in increasing his pace. He had a stint with Courtney Walsh as well, during a Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) camp.

Yash Dayal grabbed headlines during Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 season. In 7 matches, he picked 14 wickets for Uttar Pradesh at an economy rate of 3.77. He bowled 8 maidens in the tournament.

Overall, in 14 List-A games, Yash has 23 wickets at an economy of 4.49 and an average of 23.26. Yash has an impressive First-Class record also. In 14 matches, he has picked 50 wickets at an average of 29.04.

Yash Dayal hails from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. His father Chandarpal Dayal was a fast bowler himself. He played in the Vizzy Trophy (an annual inter-zonal university tournament) in the 1980s.

After Yash got picked in the IPL, his father said: “We used to play cricket for fun in our days, but now it’s a profession and I am happy for my son as I always wanted to see him play at the top.”

Yash still likes to have long cricketing discussions with his father ahead of a game.
