Losing belly fat or abdominal fat is one of the significant factors of losing overall body weight. Abdominal fat is a particularly harmful type. Research suggests strong links with diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

For this reason, losing this fat can have significant benefits for your health and well-being.

Here are 5 exercises to reduce belly fat:

1. Burpees

Burpees is a magic exercise provided you do it diligently and consistently. This exercise works on your upper body so much so that, it can get your heart racing. Burpees is never easy and calls for a lot of endurance and energy.

It is the most preferred weight loss exercise and the best part of this exercise is that the whole body is involved in the workout. More importantly, this drill works on your core and strengthens it as well, thus helping you lose body fat and belly.

2. Mountain Climbers

Like burpees, Mountain Climbers also works your core, Moreover, it involves more body muscles thus revving up your body engine the right way. The whole process of having a high plank position with wrists at shoulder level gets you into action mode.

Then all you have to do is move your knee towards your chest. This has to be done on alternate sides. Another very powerful exercise that shows results in a short time. Pushing the limit remains the key here and increasing the repetitions adds to fat loss.

3. Russian Twists

The Russian twist may not look very strenuous but has a major impact on the core. One can either use a medicine ball or a plate. This again is a core exercise that improves oblique strength and definition. The individual needs to rotate his/her torso from side to side while holding a sit-up position with your feet off the ground.

More importantly, the side-ways movement should come from your ribs and not your arms. A left-right workout at a 45-degree angle with feet above the ground directly burns fat and strengthens the core.

4. Treadmill Sprints – HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)

The age-old method of running/sprinting or maybe even short bursts of sprints can work wonders around your midriff. Not just that, it’s an overall weight-loss solution. These short-sharp cardio bouts are also called HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training).

Moreover, fast-paced workouts have a greater impact than longer sessions. Short sprints burn a higher percentage of fat and should be considered over long 5km or 10km runs.

5. Walking

walking

To many, this may sound a little bizarre but yes walking is one of the best ways to lose belly fat. Brisk walks for an hour can set the tone for a weight loss program, provided one remains consistent at it.

A walk will help you lower cortisol levels, which in turn can keep belly fat in check. These walks however need to be result-oriented and involve a brisk rate of steps. Only when it’s the walk is brisk, is when the kilos drop and the belly fat hiding around your abdomen begin to disappear.
