The 22-year old, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who had a very successful domestic season was rewarded with a call for national duty to the T20I squad. The team management rewarded him with his T20I cap at Adelaide. Called into bowl by the skipper, the youngster who was clearly overawed by the big stage that he was playing in, erred in his very first over, giving away as much as 5 wides and had an extended first over that contained 11 deliveries. Additionally he also gave away 14 more runs. His first over cost as much as 19 runs and that was hitting the Team India very hard.

However, Dhoni, exercised confidence in this young man, realising the fact that he (Pandya) was playing his first game and brought him on over again.

By this time Pandya could get the drift of the situation and the same was visible in the improvement in his bowling. In his spell of 3 overs, Pandya gave away 37 runs but picked up the wickets of the danger man Chris Lynn (17) and the wicket-keeper, Mathew Wade (5).

An overall team effort of Team India was witnessed in the match, where each took pride in others success and this collective effort helped the team go ahead 1-0 in the three match series.
