7 Major Records broken in Christchurch after Brendon blitz: Brendon McCullum, who has been New Zealand’s skipper in all the three formats is playing his last match of international career. The Black Caps skipper was at his brutal best today in Christchurch, reached three figures mark from just 54 balls.
In his 101st and final Test, McCullum broke the previous 56-ball record held by West Indian Sir Vivian Richards and Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq. McCullum then went on to compile an innings of 145 runs in his 79-ball stay at the crease which had 6 sixes and 21 fours.
Here are some records broken on Day 1 of the 2nd Test in Christchurch.
1. McCullum”s knock of 145 is the highest score by a Kiwi batsman in his last Test. The previous highest was by Rodney Redmond who scored 107 in his last Test in 1973. These two are the only centurions for New Zealand in final Test.
2. 17 number of sixes McCullum has hit at the Hagley Oval in 2 innings – 6 in this innings and 11 against Sri Lanka in 2014. This is the highest for him at any venue.
3. New Zealand”s run rate in their total of 370 is 5.63 – the second highest by any team in a total of 350 or more.
4. Brendon McCullum took 54 balls to reach his hundred and broke the previous fastest 56-ball record held by West Indian Sir Vivian Richards and Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq.
5. The run rate in the 179-run stand between Brendon McCullum and Corey Anderson was 9.76. This is the highest ever run rate in a partnership of 150 or more in Tests.
6. Brendon McCullum has hit 106 sixes in his Test career to go at the top of the list breaking Adam Gilchrist’s 100.
7. McCullum”s strike rate in his knock of 145 was 183.54. This is the second highest strike rate in an innings of 100+ runs, after Viv Richards’ strike rate of 189.75 in his knock of 110* against England in 1986.
