7 Teams Register Victors In 1st Round Of Ranji Trophy 2018/19

The final day of first-round matches of Ranji Trophy 2018/19 saw some exciting action. In Group A, Gujarat earned 6 points by winning their match against Baroda by 9 wickets. Out of 17 matches played in Round 1, 7 matches produced results and 10 matches ended in draws.

The defending Champions Vidarbha earned 1 point with a brilliant batting display. Wadkar and Sarwate added 113 runs for the 6th wicket ensured safety. Maharashtra earned 3 points with huge first innings lead. Following on, Vidarbha posted a massive 501 for 8. Captain Faiz Fazal scored 131 while Wadkar remained not out on 122.

Mumbai also earned three points with a first innings lead over Railways. Siddesh Lad and Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dubey were stars in first innings. Tushar Deshpande took 6 wickets in the first innings to provide the first innings lead. In the second innings, Mumbai Aditya Tare remained not out on 100 and young Shivam Dubey impressed again with 68 not out in 2nd innings.

In the final Group A match, Saurashtra got 3 points due to 1st innings lead against Chhattisgarh.

In Group B, Andhra Pradesh earned three points with first innings lead over Punjab, Bengal also got three points. Kerala and Hyderabad got 1 point each, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh ended with 1 point.

In Group C, Jharkhand earned 3 points with a first innings lead over Assam. Ishan Kishan was the top scorer for Jharkhand in the 2nd innings with 120 runs. Odisha, Tripura also earned 3 points with first innings lead over their respective opponents.  Rajasthan secured 6 points with a 75 runs win over Jammu and Kashmir. Chasing the target of 395 to win, despite captain’s knock by Parveez Rasool, Jammu and Kashmir was bowled out for 319.

Uttar Pradesh crushed Goa by an innings and 247 runs to gain a bonus point.

In Plate Group, Meghalaya defeated Arunachal Pradesh by 7 wickets, Uttarakhand defeated Bihar by 10 wickets, Sikkim crushed Manipur by an innings and 27 runs, Nagaland smashed Mizoram by an innings and 333 runs.

Baroda vs. Gujarat ( Moti Bagh Stadium, Vadodara)

With a lead of 149 runs, Baroda only added 18 runs for last 3 wickets to bowled out for 179. Gujarat was set the target of 168 runs to win, Samit Gohel and Panchal added 68 runs for the opening wicket.

Vidarbha vs. Maharashtra (MCA Stadium, Pune)

Starting the 4th day on 287 for 3, Vidarbha captain Faiz Fazal was dismissed early today. Wadkar and Sarwate added 113 runs for the 6th wicket ensuring safety for defending Champions. Vidarbha posted 501 for 8. Wadkar remained not out on 122.
