Umran Malik already impressed everyone with his stunning bowling
Shardul Thakur got the early breakthrough for India dismissing Finn Allen with a lovely delivery. Umran Malik was bought in the 11th over. He bowled with aggression in his first over as he produced 145.9 Kmph, 143.3-second on delivery, 145.6 kmph third delivery, 147.3kmph fourth ball, 137.1 km fifth ball, and ended with 149.6 kmph final delivery.
Umran Malik took the first wicket in ODI cricket dismissing Devon Conway and providing a simple catch to Pant. He looked miserly with disciplined lines and lengths. Malik then grabbed the wicket of Daryl Mitchell caught by substitute Deepak Hooda to rattle the Kiwi batting lineup.
He was bought for his 2nd spell, but Latham and Kane Williamson looked well set. Both Kiwis batters kept taking advantage of his pace. He ended with figures of 2 for 66 in 10 overs. With Latham well-set, Umran Malik bowled Latham onto his ribs. Kane Williamson and Latham added unbeaten 221 runs for the 4th wicket to help New Zealand win the match by 7 wickets with 17 balls.
Malik was not given a chance the playing XI for the T20I series against New Zealand. He would be looking to continue to impress with another lovely spell in the 2nd ODI match to be played at Seddon Park, Hamilton on 27 November 2022.
