Sanjay Bangar Wants to Continue as India”s Batting Coach

Current Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has revealed his intentions of maintaining his association with the Indian team. If given an opportunity he will definitely like to continue his stint as the batting coach of India. The contract of the Indian coaching staff led by Ravi Shastri came to an end after the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup. The coaching staff was awarded a two-year contract following the  ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

“The BCCI press note said that the current coaching staff would be automatic entrants. I have reapplied and I believe that when our association with the team started in 2014 under Ravi’s leadership — and we were No. 6 or 7 in both formats and from there on the kind of work we have done with the team —the results are there for everyone to see. During this period, India played 50 Tests, of which we won 28, and in 120 ODIs we won 80,” Bangar was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

“Given an opportunity, we will definitely like to continue and bring success in the T20 World Cup and the ICC Test Championship,” he added. The Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of  Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and  Shantha  Rangaswamy will select the coaching panel. In all likelihood, they will respect the decision of Virat Kohli and keep Ravi Shastri as the head coach. However, it remains to be seen whether the other coaching staff also gets an extension.

There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Sanjay Bangar”s spot might be up for grabs as the Indian batting has come under scrutiny in the last two years. Bangar was unable to find the No 4 which evaded India even during the 2019 World Cup.  It will be interesting to see the decision of Kapil Dev and Co.
