It hasn’t been the ideal start for England in the Ashes as far as injuries are concerned. After Mark Wood, James Anderson looks a doubtful starter for the next couple of Tests after feeling stiffness in his calf after bowling just 4 overs in the opening day of the 1st Ashes Test. As per reports, the leading wicket-taker for England might well miss the next two Tests.
On the opening day of the first Test, Anderson experienced stiffness in his right calf muscle and had to leave the field immediately. Though he returned to the field later in the day, he didn’t bowl any moreover throughout the innings. He might not be risked in the Test. But with a great bowler like Anderson, you cannot rule out a possibility of him coming out to bowl in the 2nd innings if the home team needs him.
Anderson went through a training session on the outfield before the start of the play on Day 2. But as a per a report in the Evening Standard, Anderson might miss the next two Tests at Lord’s and Headingley. James Anderson is in line to become the first fast bowler in the history of the game to bag 600 or more Test wickets. He is likely to be available from the 4th Test slated to begin on 4th September.

Meanwhile partner in crime for Anderson, Stuart Broad stated that the leading wicket-taker for England was devastated and frustrated after leaving the field on the opening day of the first Ashes Test. Broad further revealed that Anderson came up and apologized to the bowling group for letting them down.
“He is down, he’s frustrated … he is distraught he couldn’t be out there today. He feels like he’s let the bowling group down but he hasn’t. Niggles are a part of fast bowling, but he’s down in the dumps as you’d expect,” Broad, who scalped five wickets, said after stumps on Day one.
He actually came and said sorry to all the bowlers. Not that he’s got anything to be sorry for, but he’s just – he’s distraught he couldn’t be out there today,” he added.

“I don’t know what the next steps are, the scan could show it’s not much and he could be able to bowl in the second innings or it could show something and it’s a couple of weeks,” concluded Broad.
