The first test match of the three test match series between Australia and South Africa began today at the Gabba, Brisbane. The day saw many headline-worthy moments, including the dismissal of Steve Smith. Anrich Nortje dismissed the Aussie batter for 36 runs by beating his defence.
Anrich Nortje is among the fastest bowlers going around, and he made the ball talk against Australia on the first day of the Gabba. Steve Smith had been piling up runs since he reworked his technique. The dismissal came at a time when Australia looked like cruising towards the end of day one with just a fall of three wickets.
Nortje got the timely dismissal of Smith as he was involved in a 117-run partnership with Travis Head, and the hosts were cruising along. Before the end of the day’s play, the Proteas got two quick dismissals finishing the day on a high on a not-so-great day for them, especially with the bat.

Australia lost David Warner on the first ball of their innings and lost two quick wickets of Usman Khawaja and the in-form Marnus Labuschangne.
