Inaugural Edition Of Euro T20 Slam Postponed To 2020

The Euro T20 Slam which was initially scheduled to begin this month has unfortunately been postponed. The tournament was supposed to start on 30th of August 2019 and end on 22nd September 2019.

According to the official statement released on their social media accounts, the tournament has been “pushed to a further date due to unforeseen circumstances.”

The tournament had six franchises (2 each from Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands) and was hosted jointly by Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands.

The tournament initially comprised of T20 prowesses like Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle, Rashid Khan Martin Guptill, Dale Steyn, Fakhar Zaman and many more. A total of 33 matches were to be played within a span of 23 days.

Without disclosing much information on the subject, the tournament officials said, “detailed press release will follow”.

“The board of the Euro T20 Slam, funding partners and franchise owners of this exciting new T20 tournament have reluctantly come to the decision that staging of the event will not be possible in 2019,” said Prashant Mishra, the tournament’s founder.

This month, Brendon McCullum announced his retirement from cricket and said he won”t play the Euro T20 Slam which he was supposed to play earlier.

The tournament officials also stated that the tournament is not cancelled but just postponed to 2020.

Malcolm Cannon, Chief Executive of Cricket Scotland, said: “While this was a very difficult decision to make at this late stage, we believe that it is the right one and one which leaves us with a great opportunity to launch the Euro T20 Slam next year with its deserved noise level.”

Finances play a major role in the development of the game. With the tournament held in Europe, its primary motive was to get the people involved in the game.

An exciting concept of T20 leagues coupled with a controversial postponement of the tournament has surely the hyped up the tournament for next year.
