Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour has expressed that Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav need to wait for their opportunity in the ODI setup and both the players are aware of it. The duo is part of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, however, they have yet not got an opportunity in the playing XI.
Suryakumar Yadav slammed his third T20I century against Sri Lanka earlier this year, while Ishan Kishan recently slammed a double century in the ODI series against Bangladesh. The duo’s exclusion from the playing XI for the first two matches was criticized by some fans and experts.
Speaking about the two players, the batting coach, Vikram Rathour expressed,
“They are not forced (to sit out), I mean, the others are doing good as well. As players they do understand that, and they need to wait for their opportunity, and they are preparing for that, they train hard and whenever that opportunity comes, they do well and hold on to their places.”
When asked if Ishan Kishan can bat in the middle order, Vikram Rathour said, “At the moment, he has been picked as an opener but as a batting unit we are flexible and if there is a need to try somebody like Ishan in the middle order, we might have to. At the moment though, he is being looked at as an opener.”

Team India coach Vikram Rathour was all praise for in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav. He expressed that the flamboyant batter has great potential and is also in great form. Rathour added that whenever Suryakumar gets the chance in the ODIs, he will do well for the team.
Speaking about the 32-year-old, the batting coach said, “He has great potential, he has been in great form, it is great to have him in the reserve, and hopefully, when the time comes, he will take that opportunity and do well for the team. It is great to have a such versatile player in the team.”
