Former Indian selector Sarandeep Singh sees Suryakumar Yadav in the squad for the prestigious 50-over World Cup to be played in India later this year.
The Indian Cricket Team lost the ODI series at home by 1-2 against Australia. After winning the first ODI by 5 wickets at Mumbai, Men in Blue lost the 2nd ODI by 10 wickets at Vizag and then lost by 21 runs in 3rd One-day international at Chennai. Suryakumar Yadav was disappointed with his batting performance with 3 successive ducks on his first deliveries.
“Suryakumar Yadav is a fantastic cricketer. Just feel bad for him that he got out on zero in the three games against Australia, but he can turn it around for himself,” said Sarandeep Singh.
The Indian Cricket Team whitewashed Sri Lanka and New Zealand by 3-0 in the ODI series and became the number 1 ranked side in 50 over format. They would look to make history by winning the 50-over World Cup at home.
“I see him in the World Cup squad. It’s about backing the player. When we were the selectors, we used to have a plan and a team, and we used to back them to the end. Moreover, SKY has been phenomenal in the last year. He is batting exceptionally well. He has scored loads of runs in domestic cricket and has made his way into the side. So, if someone asks (for) my opinion, I will give him another opportunity,” said Sarandeep.
Middle Order big problem
The middle order is a big concern going into the mega-event. If India needs to win the tournament, they need their batters to click on all cylinders against different opponents.
The number spot has been a major dilemma for Team India going into the tournament. It was the same problem during the 2019 World Cup played in England and Wales.
Suryakumar Yadav needs to give more chances as KL Rahul has done well in the middle order. The Indian team would be hoping that all members could give fans to cheer with some brilliant performances in the upcoming World Cup.
